The Role
You learn so much in a year but do expect long hours in busy season and understand that this isn't a 9 till 5, hour for lunch job
Had plenty of socials and got on well with my colleagues. Note that the social side is likely to be better in a smaller office...
Huge support from my people manager and colleagues all year round.
You will be busy, especially to start with as you are still learning, but you will learn to manage this.
Real responsibility from day one, on numerous occasions I was the only member of staff on site performing the audit.
This placement is a chance to work on all aspects of accounting and with numerous businesses. Furthermore you are able to start completing your ACA qualification.
The Company
Good atmosphere in the office, friendly colleagues and a well equipped games room. Note in assurance you won't see the office very often.
Very good, support at all stages of the process.
The chance to complete 6-9 exams of the ACA during the placement year. Numerous courses to enhance personal development as well as plenty of support from senior colleagues.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
The company invests a huge amount into your personal development, this is the best way to become a chartered accountant.
The Culture
As this is quite a young business, the social side is very good. There are numerous social events to get involved in which I really enjoyed and most people are happy to go out, outside of work/ work events. The smaller offices do have a better social scene than the larger ones though, if this is important to you.
I paid approx 400pcm for my accommodation with all bills included so pretty reasonable! Nottingham is not too expensive for socialising, you can spend as much or as little as you like.
Nottingham has a good nightlife.
Loads of emails went round for people to get involved in activities outside of work (football, basketball, netball etc.). If there's something that you want to do just send an email around and people will get involved.
