The Role
It was really fun. I was given 3 interesting projects in Nuclear Materials. The social life was really good as well.
The department was really friendly and happy to help if I ever had a problem.
I was given plenty of support when I asked for it.
Reasonably busy most days. It started off a little bit slow but after my projects got under way and definitely towards the end I was very busy.
I was completely responsible for my projects but my manager was happy to help if I ever needed any and so were other people in the office.
It was really useful and I received some very useful contacts through it. It was a really good insight into materials in industry especially nuclear materials as I also went on a fair few sight visits.
The Company
Everybody was really friendly and there was a lot of general jokes and chats. We all went out on office outings every so often as well.
It was really well organised. I received my projects at the start of the placement and we had an induction day at the beginning which gave us all an overview of what was going to happen. There were a few things that could have run more smoothly but overall it was very organised.
They invested a lot in the interns. The materials interns all had to present presentations on what we had been doing all summer to some of the top heads and managers in the materials. I also gave a presentation to my particular department within materials (the nuclear department). They were also very clear on future opportunities within the company. They also invested time in training us on lab equipment such as SEMs.

They are very appealing. They were very clear about the options available to me during the placement. I will also not have to do another assessment centre to get another internship with them.
The Culture
There was a really good social seen especially for people in Derby uni halls.
Derby is really cheap so there were no problems there.
Nightlife was okay but all the clubs are mostly in one area of the city which was useful.
They let us sign up to the apprentice and graduates association at the start who provided opportunities. There are also lots of Rolls-Royce social/ activities clubs to go and join.
