The Role
I've given the placement a 8/10 as overall I did enjoy the placement but there are a couple things that could have been improved. The structure and execution of the placement was excellent and because of this I felt like I was doing something of value to the company.
Was initially introduced to colleagues and throughout the placement they were supportive. I was given a project where I was primarily working alone so had less interaction with people than I was expecting.
Colleagues provided assistance where it was needed however didn't check up on me regularly and as such I was left to make my own decisions. They made time for my questions and provided good support.
At the start of the placement I had a few not so busy days but as the placement progressed I was given more and more to do.
I was given a good amount of responsibility and felt like I was doing something of value to the company.
I learnt valuable skills during the placement that could be easily transferred to studies and other future roles.
The Company
I was in an office where the average age was quite high so coming straight from university it was quite a difference. However, everyone was welcoming and the atmosphere was good.
The organisation of the placement was excellent and it was obvious they were looking to improve the systems for taking on placement students year on year. One criticism was that, as a non-engineer, much of the set-up seemed targeted for engineers.
There was training courses provided both on-line and in person. Some of these were compulsory and others were optional, allowing you to decide what you wanted to do.

The Culture
The social scene was good and the apprentice association put on events which were well organised.
As a student in Bristol I already had a house so didn't need to worry about that. Public transport is on the expensive side and with the site being on the outskirts of Bristol I ended paying £4 a day to get to and from work.
Bristol as a city has good pubs and clubs and also has lots of great events year-round.
The apprentice association organised events and activities for the placement students and apprentices.
