    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Everyone was really welcoming and it is a great place to work. I didn't feel like an intern but a valued employee as I had a lot of responsibility.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I built up a great relationship with my team, who were very supportive. They really valued my opinions and listened to any concerns I had.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a mentor who helped me get familiar with the job and the company. I would then have review meetings with my line manager about my development.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy as I was given my own projects to run. This was a lot of responsibility but meant that I learnt a lot throughout the placement.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility, however if I felt that I was given too much I had a good network of people who could support me.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I gained many skills in my role at Mars. I feel they will help me a lot with future jobs.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was an open plan office which I really enjoyed as you could easily approach people. Sometimes it was really quiet if people were out of office on conferences.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think generally the placement scheme was well organised. Each placement student had a completely different role, so it was interesting to hear what they were working on. I think the programme needs some improvement to ensure that the support and network continues throughout the whole year. The placement scheme is not as well supported as the Graduate schemes, however Mars recognise this and are working to improve it.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt that the company was really interested in my personal development. I was encouraged to attend many training days. Even if some trainings were not specifically relevant to my role I could still attend them if it meant developing my skills. I had to focus on two key skills for development and these were measured throughout the year. This helped me to ensure that I did develop the skills I have identified for improvement.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    International Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Placement students are now given the opportunity to interview for a Graduate Scheme if they wish. This is a great opportunity and good experience even if you were unsuccessful. Alternatively there are options to return to Mars in a direct entry role.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a strong social scene amongst the graduates and within the Commercial division. However I did not feel this as much with the other placement students.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is relatively expensive in the London area. The socialising was good, however at times it could be a bit inconvenient having to travel in and out on London. Despite this it was great fun!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • For a good nighlife you would have to travel into london, which is expensive and awkward if you have to travel back to the Slough area. Alternatively Windsor is good for a night out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there were social clubs which were organised through Mars. There were also free exercise classes on site in the evenings.
