The Role
I did not find the work itself interesting. It would have been more suited to someone from a technical background.
Certain colleagues were fantastic-ensuring I felt appreciated and supported. Others? Less so.
My line manager was often busy on a day to day basis so getting his help was at times difficult. Weekly meetings helped orientate my development.
Although I did have work to do, at times I found it hard to motivate myself to complete it given the nature of the work-lots of data entry!
Being given a main project to work on, I enjoyed "being in charge" although at times I felt this limited my contact with other colleagues.
Of course there are transferable skills I have built-time management, stakeholder liasion etc. However I feel my time could have been better spent in a role relating to my degree and future career plans.
The Company
Occasional laughter, cake sales etc. Other than that-typical office environment. It was at times hard to work in the office given its large open plan nature which was not conducive to quiet given the number of phone calls which would be taking place at the same time!
Very well organised-I was in contact with my line manager before beginning which allowed me (to an extent) to orientate myself with the work I would be doing.
Hats off-Lloyds really do invest in their colleagues. From webinars to training sessions and continual support, the internship team are great.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Banking is not an industry I would seek to work in. In particular the UK focus of Lloyds is unappealing of me-I wish to work for a global business with attached opportunities for travel and self development.
The Culture
It varied depending on workloads/schedules but we met up regularly to chat and go for drinks or dinner.
Coming from the South, it was slightly cheaper to live and socialise North of the border.
A wide range of bars/pubs/clubs etc to enjoy in the local area.
The opportunities were there for those who wanted to. However, given my day was busy from waking up until around 7pm (taking into account travel to work, work itself and the gym) this didn't afford a great amount of time to get involved in other extra-curricular activities.
