The Role
It's a really friendly place, all employees treat you with respect and individually which is great. I had worried that because Cancer Research UK have so many interns you wouldn't be respected. I was made a full member of the team and organisation which really added to the experience.
My manager was fantastic. We had twice weekly 1-2-1 sessions as well as regular reviews. She also assisted me in career choices and help with applications for after the internship. I also had a mentor who was on the graduate scheme. He was also great and I think we will stay in contact after my placement has finished.
At the start of my placement I didn't have a lot to do but once my project started progressing I had lots to do and the chance to extend my work depending on the time I had.
I led my own project with support from my manager. As it was my project I was able to make as much of it as I wanted.
The Company
Everyone is incredibly motivated and friendly
As the internship is well established everything had been well thought through. We had a member of the volunteering team in charge of the whole internship and she was amazing. Incredibly organised, she wanted us to get the best experience possible and so ensured that we were provided with the support that we wanted.
We had a one day for career and CV advice where we had a 1-2-1 with members of the HR team. I would have preferred longer with the HR team and more help in future career choices (particularly as I would like to stay in the charity sector). There were documents that were supposed to be used to make you think about the skills you have developed during the internship.

It's made quite clear that there isn't a definite job at the end of the internship. You have access to the internal jobs but there wasn't anything I wanted to do.
The Culture
Made great friends, loved it.
London is expensive for an unpaid internship!
Great for bars but didn't go to any clubs or anything like that.
Always some sort of volunteering activity going on. I got involved in the organising of the intern fundraiser where we raised approximately £3500 for Cancer Research UK.
