    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This was an exciting opportunity that gave me new experiences in my chosen degree (BSc Accounting and Finance). There is a real sense of thrill and excitement to be able physically apply what you learn from the University lecture theatre to a real business like SIG.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have made excellent professional networks that I can take back to University for my final year! My department and work colleagues were very friendly, attentive and open with me. They genuinely made me feel comfortable and apart of the team!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Guidance was always there and questions were always welcome, but my supervisors relied on me to be independent to manage my own workload, and at times expected to use my own initiative to complete the work.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Generally speaking I was very busy during my internship, I was much busier at the start of the internship than the latter part. This was because at the end of the internship there were few jobs that I could start and complete before finishing my internship.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Loads! I was given a lot of independency and responsibility during my internship. I worked with a lot of sensitive and private data and entrusted to be confidential with the information i was given. I was given a lot of freedom to construct the work as I thought was best.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Without a doubt the skills and abilities that i have gained and developed from this internship will stay with me forever! They will definitely be important and useful to use whilst at university, and I believe that these very skills will be the skills that employers search for in graduates.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a "work hard and play hard" atmosphere in my department, we all had that drive to work at 100% during office hours, but we could all socialise and enjoy ourselves with a nice drink and a game of golf after 5pm.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There's very little certainty of how long project work should take, and because of it some of my projects that I was working on finished earlier or later than expected. This caused problems when more work needed to be found for me to complete.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given a deep insight into what I'm studying at University and saw the process of information from purchase ledger to the management account reports stage, working in all the different areas. i worked with other professionals and learned how to actually carry out the theory (gained from university) and apply it to a real scenario.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Car

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • This is a company that I am sure I want to be apart of. I'm looking forward to applying for their graduate programme, and hopefully make my way up the ladder. My aim? Senior Management Level in 10-12 years time.Wish me luck!

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a meeting and gathering of students prior to the internship and another at the end of the internship. This was an opportunity to kind of "break the ice" with co-workers and make friends before walking into an alien office.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cambridgeshire is expensive. Costs of living and socialising is very very alike to London! For those of you who havent been to London and seen the prices, its basically expensive!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Peterborough and Cambridge were not that far away from where I worked, roughly about 20 minute drive either way, and the night life is supposedly great. I wouldn't know because I'm not really interested in that kind of entertainment.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Got to play golf with my collegues and am now hooked on the game. Besides that there wasn't much else to get involved in.
