    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyable role that includes loads of interpersonal interaction (not a role for you if you don't like people). Loads of Project Management Experience throught my Business Analyst Role.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Often included in high level (senior managment) discussions and meetings. Given a chance to contribute and my ideas are taken seriously. Recognised with a "say thanks" award for hard work on a certain project.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Indifferent support - manager is part time - often left to my own devices and sometimes run out of work. Lots of training included in role.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Generally have to work longer hours than expected but feel it is worthwhile. At GE this tends to be what is expected.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Load of responsibility. Often writing on Senior management pitches or holding meetings with people far above my grade. Loads of exposure. I still make the tea though. HAHA.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Given loads of related training including ESIproject managment (proffesional) training and Finance for non-financ training. I have also done 3 GE courses including - influencing skills, Presentation skills & workload management. I am also hoping to do further training in 2008. I will use all of the training beyond the placement (and probably in my graduate career).

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great team, reflected in the ongoing banter and fun. Often after work trips and drinks. Great relationship with the Intern team.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Pretty good although lacks a bit of structure towards the middle of the placement.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • See earlier question on this - Proffessional courses are through external consultants so expensive.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Good graduate programmes but not the biggest payers. Would consider staying on following placement

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Great, met up fairly often doing such things as bowling, golf, weekly 5-a side football and numerous after work events (including our very own christmas party) - Lived with 3 other interns.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very little salary left after rent, food and travel - welcome to the real work!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Depends what your into - but was pretty rubbish - Watford is not really a nightlife Mecca.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, including charity events, and the events that are up and running through the company.

    4/5
