The Role
I really enjoyed it, the work was really varied and as a consequence I really felt that I had a lot of responsibility which translated into feeling really valued by my team. I would recommend the placement as the fellow interns were all really like-minded and very sociable, there were a number of events put on by the interns, for CRUK as well as social outings.
I felt very valued by my team - the people I worked directly with.
I had weekly 1:1s with my manager who prioritised my need to get a job after the placement. She continued to lay out what I had learnt during the internship, helped me with job applications and, of course, had all my projects laid out before I started.
I always had something to do - whether it was an urgent project or something that I could work on on an ongoing basis.
I was given 4/5 projects to complete and felt I was given a lot of responsbility as I oversaw/ project managed them.
The skills I have gained during this placement enabled me to get a job. Without a doubt, this experience was the single most important professional internship I have done.
The Company
Very friendly, and most people seemed, and were, very approachable.
I had no negative experiences regarding the set up of my itnernship - I had inductions during my first couple of weeks; and access to a computer, the database and other general CRUK specific resources was all set up before my arrival.
Of course, my team knew I would be leaving but gave me an incomparable amount of responsibility for the 3 months. I was also helped with job applications and given interview tips and contacts by various people in the organisation.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Not sure about within the organisation, but the placement has really boosted my employability and I have a job now to start after the internship ends!
The Culture
Very good, but it is reliant on being confident/ outgoing too.
About average - some clubs nearby are actually free to CRUK employees and, therefore, interns! Lunch was paid for, but there are a good number of places to eat, including the canteen.
Same as above - one club was free to enter for CRUK interns!
Volunteering at sports events, parties, festivals balls and even putting on our own events. Great variet.
