The Role
The work was interesting and stimulating!
The atmosphere stayed quite cold during the two months. People rarely even said "Hi".
My manager gave me all the support I needed, while at the same time giving me enough autonomy to find my own way.
The workload was quite big, but that's normal considering the experimental side of my job.
After a while, people directly came to me for new feature requests, and discussions, without going through my manager.
I had already done a lot of what I did during the internships, but there definitely are things you can't learn but when in the field.
The Company
Only keyboard sounds, but then that's normal regarding the department I was in, I guess. Some jokes, but did not feel included. Every Friday we would have doughnuts which is a nice way to meet people.
The field was quite "experimental" so we didn't really know where we were going. The equipment was good.
I had time to discover new tools (no pressure on that part). My manager would also buy me books about the work I was doing.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I don't know how they feel about me, but I'd definitely want to come back after my studies.
The Culture
Plenty of events were organised for summer students.
The cost of living was high (UK...) but the company pays well.
Poor nightlife at Cambridge during the summer, since all students are gone for holidays. Nice pubs, though.
You really have to look for them, sometimes.
