    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Interesting and varied work; endless amounts to learn to keep me engaged.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues always had very generous words to say about my contribution. I'm sad to be leaving!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • High quality was support was always there when needed, without being over-bearing.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Sometimes the work available was a little light. I had to be very proactive about identifying tasks that could add value.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As a task engineer I was supporting a much larger project that moved at its own pace. I had some important tasks to tackle, but these weren't critical path activities.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It was a perfect insight in to the business rhythms of a power station and the practicalities of working life as part of a large company. I also developed many of the key professional soft skills that I really had no experience of from university.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • An excellent team with plenty of personalities to keep the whole family entertained.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Some of the organisation was a little rough around the edges. The placement that followed mine, however, has had a much smoother experience.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I participated in several training courses and many of my colleagues took time out from their own jobs to give me coaching.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • EDF Energy offers a comprehensive graduate scheme that industrial placement students have an excellent chance of gaining entry to. This is really the only route to direct employment with EDF Energy as a graduate with little or no prior experience.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The placement students, and the graduates who rotated around the different EDF Energy sites, have a strong community. I hope to keep in contact with friends made on my placement.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Edinburgh can be very expensive for rent and socialising, although other areas in East Lothian are more affordable. The shock will be less for those used to living in the south of England.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Edinburgh rarely fails to put a smile on one's face.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Always lots to do

    5/5
