The Role
I really enjoyed my internship as a Technology intern at RBS. It is challenging, educational and rewarding. They teach you all the knowledge you need to have in order to perform well in the industry, and really give you a chance to experience real projects. People are very nice and open, and many people are interested in talking more to interns and graduates to hear more about their views, which makes you feel valued.
Everybody at RBS are very helpful and genuinely value your contributions to the team. They give you the right amount of responsibility and allows you to learn and develop continuously without putting too much pressure on you.
I had weekly meetings with my line manager to get feedback on my performance and to discuss any issues that had come up during the week. I also wrote weekly updates in order to keep track of my progress. At RBS you also get a chance to network with senior managers, which gives you an opportunity to get their advice and learn more about what different areas there are.
Many deadlines piled up towards the end of the internship, which you can expect. Otherwise the days were relatively even in workload and I never felt that I had too much work that I could not handle.
In the beginning I wasn't given much responsibility, but as I developed and learnt more I was given more and more responsibility to organize meetings with other project teams and at the end also more or less running a project on my own. In technology you also to a group project, in which you were given responsibility as a team from day one.
A lot of the skills I have learnt could not be learnt from reading a book. It's a lot about spending time in the working environment which makes you pick up things that together form the whole picture. I believe that my skills that I have learnt here, although some have been very specific, will form a good basis of any career choice I do.
The Company
The atmosphere in my office was great. My team was very outgoing and always invited me to team socials and I quickly became a member of the team.
The internship was well organized, but unfortunately interns were spread out in different offices across London, which meant that in order to attend some compulsory events there were always some interns that would have to take time to travel to the other office. Some of the training was too trivial for most people, but was there to ensure that everyone got the same background knowledge.
There was an initial training week where we were all taught about the banking industry and very general, but useful information on how an investment bank works. This was extremely useful as I had limited knowledge before I came onto the program. However, I did not receive any role specific training that related to my desk work, which I think could have been useful.

Company Parties/Events
I have yet to find out if I will receive an offer, but overall I believe that there are great opportunities as RBS at the moment.
The Culture
You get many chances to bond with other interns, even though you might not see them very often around your desk. RBS organizes events where you get a chance to get to know the other interns and you quickly get new friends.
London is very expensive to live in, but there are cheaper areas where you can both live and go out.
I was placed in London, which explains it all. I don't think anyone finds London boring.
There are so many things going on in London over the summer. It is easy to meet new people and you can join football teams or anything that suits you.
