The Role
I really enjoyed the project work elements, though as expected it involved some straight data analysis which is never fun...
I was lucky enough to be working on projects that were genuinely valued by the team, on a level with them rather than just being delegated work. Going for team dinner and drinks helped a lot... Any work with colleagues outside the team was much the same.
This was great. Both the head of my team and the specialist assigned as my supervisor were very helpful whenever I asked, and arranged to meet regularly to check on my progress.
Managing my workload was largely up to me and depending on the stages of my projects I could be short on work or a little too busy, but this was mostly my fault...
Full responsibility on the work I did. I checked in with my supervisor and head of team, but I was allowed free reign. I liked it this way.
The work skills were mostly what I brought to the job, but it was good to get experience using them in practice, to real deadlines. The lunch-and-learns, however, were excellent: we learned a huge amount about the industry and the company, while getting direct contact with high-level management for questions.
The Company
Depending on the day and the team. Everyone works pretty hard...
It was fine when there was contact with the arrangement side, we had everything placed into our calendar with reminders.
Initial basic training and lunch and learns mostly, the rest was all on the job.
Company Parties/Events
I was given an offer and a choice of a few different grad scheme streams to go with.
The Culture
There was very little pre-arranged but it is great if you go to find it.
Work-arranged events generally had free drinks etc, but anything else was in the City, so it was hugely expensive...
Again, right in the City, so there are banker bars in the area, or Shoreditch is 5 minutes one way, and the West End is 10 minutes the other...
It's London. Depending on the team, you could be leaving the office by 5.30/6pm so if you look for it you can find it...
