    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the project work elements, though as expected it involved some straight data analysis which is never fun...

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was lucky enough to be working on projects that were genuinely valued by the team, on a level with them rather than just being delegated work. Going for team dinner and drinks helped a lot... Any work with colleagues outside the team was much the same.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • This was great. Both the head of my team and the specialist assigned as my supervisor were very helpful whenever I asked, and arranged to meet regularly to check on my progress.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Managing my workload was largely up to me and depending on the stages of my projects I could be short on work or a little too busy, but this was mostly my fault...

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Full responsibility on the work I did. I checked in with my supervisor and head of team, but I was allowed free reign. I liked it this way.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The work skills were mostly what I brought to the job, but it was good to get experience using them in practice, to real deadlines. The lunch-and-learns, however, were excellent: we learned a huge amount about the industry and the company, while getting direct contact with high-level management for questions.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Depending on the day and the team. Everyone works pretty hard...

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was fine when there was contact with the arrangement side, we had everything placed into our calendar with reminders.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Initial basic training and lunch and learns mostly, the rest was all on the job.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was given an offer and a choice of a few different grad scheme streams to go with.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was very little pre-arranged but it is great if you go to find it.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Work-arranged events generally had free drinks etc, but anything else was in the City, so it was hugely expensive...

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, right in the City, so there are banker bars in the area, or Shoreditch is 5 minutes one way, and the West End is 10 minutes the other...

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • It's London. Depending on the team, you could be leaving the office by 5.30/6pm so if you look for it you can find it...

    5/5
