The Role
I really enjoyed my internship; everyone made me feel really welcome and I was given a range of projects to work on including being put on a client project.
Everyone was really friendly, the Birmingham office made me feel part of the team and made sure I was included in all the socials/office events. The team I worked with on my client project made me feel valued and always thanked me for the work I was doing.
I was always supported and anytime I had a question there was always someone on hand to help. They made sure I had the tools and knowledge needed to complete the tasks in hand and helped me develop skills specific to consulting.
I had full days pretty much every day, with meetings, conference calls and then I was given documents to work on when we weren't in meetings.
I was given great responsibility during my internship;during my first week I had a meeting with the UK MD and European GM for the client I was working for and regularly met with the board. I also helped with a PMO set up, regularly ringing clients and colleagues to organise meetings and producing documents to be presented to the clients.
The skills I've learnt will be used when I return to university such as presentation skills and report writing. I will also use them when I return to consulting in the future.
The Company
It depended on how busy the office was - most people were on client site but Mondays and Fridays were when most people were in the office. Everyone was really friendly, often going to lunch together and we even had treat Fridays where a different person would bring cakes in each week!
The first week was a bit disorganised as it was hard to bring people off their client projects to come and meet us in the office but once I got put on the projects it was seamless.
We had an initial training scheme for the first 2 days of the placement and then we had regular development days throughout the internship. On top of this the team I worked with spent their time sharing their knowledge and helping me to develop my skills.
Company Parties/Events
I've been offered a job as a management consulting associate for autumn 2014.
The Culture
I met up with the Birmingham interns at least once a week with regular nights out and then also met up with the consulting interns across the country through PwC organised events.
Birmingham was pretty cheap but any expenses through client work or having to go to different offices were paid for by PwC.
The nightlife in Birmingham is really good and we had several nights out and also went out for dinner/drinks on a regular basis.
I got involved in a volunteering project with Birmingham Children's hospital. There was also the chance to get involved in sport's teams.
