The Role
Overall I enjoyed it but as with any job I had good and bad days.
I worked in a team of 8 people and they were all very lovely and keen to answer any questions and give me guidance and tips for the future.
My Manager didnt not treat me as a typical 'intern' and I was pleased about that. He always had time for me and treated me with respect. At some point he was away for 2 weeks but still kept in touch via email to ensure I had work to do
At the beginning of the internship I found myself trying to pretend to look like I had work to do but as time went on I was given more responsibilities which I could do at my own pace. I had no tight deadlines to meet so I would have prefered to have been given more work.
I would have loved to be given more responsibilities but being only there for 10 weeks there is only so much responsibility I could be given.
The networking across Santander was for me the best part of my internship. Despite working in Risk I had the opportunity to visit other business lines within santander and gain an overview of the bank. I was given alot of advice in terms of making decisions about what direction to take my career. Santander is a very relaxed bank (I guess this comes from it being a spanish bank) and most people are really friendly and down to earth.
The Company
I worked in Risk which is generally quite compared to trading floors but everyone had time for some banter.
I did not have a time table for the duration of my internship and at the begining it took forever for my IT log in details to be made available to me.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
The signs seem positive and its very highly likely that I will be offered a graduate role with Santander.
The Culture
Yes we were a good bunch of interns always up for a drink or two
I interned in London so I dont need to elaborate anymore. A london allowance would have been nice.
Many people in my department were quite older than me so a nightlife was non existent
No not really but for the graduates and permanent employees yes.
