The Role
The first week or two were the hardest, working in a new environment but by the end I didn't want to leave.
The people in my team were very nice, any work I did to help them was much appriecated. I felt included and valued in the team even after a short time.
Generally I had the support and guidance I needed, I felt able to approach my manager/s and people in the team if I needed help.
I've rated this as 7 - some days I would have said 4, other days 10. The last few weeks of my project were the busiest but that was because of the nature of the work I was doing.
The main projects I was given to work were important, and as I was to organise them myself there was quite a bit of responsibility. Although this was challenging at times, I found it motivating and rewarding.
I feel doing an internship was a great experience which will help me in the future, not just in my studies but further into my career & personally.
The Company
The atmosphere was not as 'fun' as my current work enviroment but I wouldn't have expected it to be in this environment. Everyone was very busy but still had time for a chat and the occasional laugh!
This would be an area where Santander could improve it's internship. Generally from my experience and that of the other interns I spoke to we felt more organisation in the first week or two would have made it better. I think all interns should be given some sort of outline for the 10 weeks on their first day or two, and regular review meetings (perhaps weekly? Although I do believe that some may have had this or something similar). I also know that before the internship started some interns hadn't heard from their manager until the last mintute, although this wasn't the case for myself.
The networking and development event was interesting and a good opportunity to meet interns and other people. Access to Learning at Santander meant that there were opportunites for personal training and development online. I also had flexibility and the opportunity in my internship to spend time in other teams in my business area, and even different business areas if I felt that was something that I would be interested in.

There is a clear route to doing the graduate scheme in the business area which you completed your internship - which I believe is something Santander has improved on from last year. There is also an opportunity to change business areas.
The Culture
Interns met most lunch times in the canteen, also planned lunches out and the occasional after work meeting.
I would say more or less average
There were opportunities to take part in weekly sports practice.
