The Role
I wasn't sure what to expect on my internship, however I settled in quickly and I really enjoyed the 10 weeks in my department.
I was fortunate enough to feel very welcomed and get on with all the members within my team. I also was assigned a Buddy (Graduate) which was another great colleague to work with. I was also given great responsibilty from my manager which showed he could trust/depend on me.
I had regular reviews with my manager to ensure I was getting the most out of the intern. My manager arranged for me to meet lots of different departments and continued to give great support and advice on the role.
Some days were incredibly busy, filled with meetings and incidents. Other days there was limited work to do when there were fewer incidents being reported.
I was given great responsibility handling my own incidents from the first day.
The main skill I have learnt is communication, I have had to work with people from all different departments across the head offices in the UK. I had face to face meetings, telephone conferences and regular email trails to resolve incidents. Other skills that I have developed are team work, working independently and evaluating/analysing information.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very friendly. Everyone was welcoming and I fitted into the department with ease.
Once I had started my intern, the intern ran very smootly. There were organised events and meetings that I would attend on a regular basis.
The manager and other members of the team took a great about of time out to ensure that I was aware of the tasks I had to do. I would sit down with certain members of the team and work through various different tasks.
National Travel
Hopefully, if all goes to plan we should be notified within a month of leaving Santander whether we have been offered a position on the Graduate Scheme. If we receive a good reference from our manager and there is the places available we will get offered the Graduate Scheme - which I am hoping for.
The Culture
Apart from when we were fortunate to visit other head offices, there was very little social experiences on my placement. There was one intern event, which I did not get to travel to as it was at the head office I was working at.
I lived in my university halls (30 minutes away) which I had already paid for. Socialising in the local area was relatively good value for money. Lots of people did however complain about the expense of the canteen food.
Apart from visits to other head offices, we did not really experiences the night life in the area I worked in.
Yes, however I was not aware of them at first.
