The Role
The placement was really engaging and the team made me feel valued right from the beginning. I was given responsibility straight away which allowed me to get lots more experience and made the experience more valuable because I was able to see what a typical day would be for an associate and a new joiner.
My team always made sure that they explained what I was doing and why it was relevant to the overall task. They also always asked if I needed help and always explained tasks further if I ever became unsure what to do. I was also always invited to socials so I felt valued by the team straight away.
My people manager was really helpful from the very first day of my internship. They were there to meet me on the first day of my internship and made sure they regularly kept in touch with me to make sure that I was getting on okay. At socials, as well as my assigned buddy, they made sure I was introduced to everybody which helped me integrate into the team faster.
Particularly if I was at a client site there was lots of things that I was able to help with, whether this is my own assigned work or assisting others in completing theirs. Understandably with the nature of the job if I had not received the information needed from clients I may have less to do than at times when information was just received, but overall I was never overworked and never had nothing to do.
Throughout the internship I was often assigned lots of my own work which meant that I was responsible for my own sections of each engagement. The teams were also cautious to ask me how much experience I had in different areas to allow them to stretch me and also make sure I received lots of exposure to different processes. At times when I was helping others I was always told how my task would benefit the team and how the other team members would use the information I provided, so I always felt I was given responsibility even from day one.
Before we began client work we were given lots of training in basic to more advanced accouting as well as other job essentials such as software training, so by the time I was at client sites I felt prepared to begin basic duties and then there was development throughout the internship.
The Company
Throughout my internship there was lots of opportunities to get involved in the sports and social evets that were run. In the time I was an intern these ranged from tennis evenings to white water rafting and I was encouraged to get involved and through this met a lot more people in the office.
the whole internship was very well managed. I knew from the first day what I was booked on and for how long as well as at least one team member who I could get in contact with if I had any questions. We knew well inadvance any development or training days and locations so we could book transport early.
We were given several training days and the initial induction events were very thorough and hosted away from the office to make sure we could focus on our training. Lots of training was conducted on the job and the team were always more than willing to spend time coaching me on anything I was unsure of.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I really enjoyed the internship and all the people I worked with. I have now accepted a job offer received from them.
The Culture
All the other interns in the office were really nice and we were encouraged early on to socialise with each other, especially as we may begin as graduates together! We reguarly kept in contact throughout the internship and always arranged to do things with each other when we were in the office or on the same client.
As the office is located close to London the living costs can be higher than other parts of the country. However there was lots of places to socialise and always cheaper alternatives to the more expensive bars and resturants, so the internship experience was not in any way affected by the office location.
As the office is so close to London this is right on the doorstep, as well as other local cities. Also, there is so many places to visit near the office as it is located only 2 streets away from the high street.
There was always opportunities to get involved with the sports and social events taking place. During my internship there was lots of different events being offered at least weekly, so there was always something for everyone. Also we were told straight away if nothing appealed to us we could suggest events and the office would do its best to cater for them.
