The Role
In all, I felt that the 6-week internship was well-structured and the duration was just right. All the objectives for the internship were met and I did meet a lot of interesting people throughout my stint.
I am invited to many socials and meals with my project team, which made me feel like home. Over and above, the responsibilities and work assigned to me were equivalent of that given to an Associate which made me feel valued as an intern.
The members in my project team were always willing to help if I encounter any problems with the assigned tasks. Moreover, they take the effort to check up on my progress periodically, which was very encouraging.
The workload varies from day to day, but the project team has made attempts to keep me busy throughout the day, which were great learning opportunities.
I was tasked to complete assignments of an Associate level - writing documentation for the control testing, conducting actual control testing and communicating with the client through a conference call.
The classroom training during the induction was very important as I had a great overview of what auditing is, and the accounting skills involved during the day-to-day work. I have also gained professional skepticism over different businesses, which is very useful when analysing companies in my future career.
The Company
There were many socials, snacks, drinks etc. which were amazingly collegiate and friendly. The colleagues usually have informal conversations throughout the day which breaks the monotony of the work.
It was very well-planned and structured throughout the 6 weeks.
Induction training and on-the-job learning was the most useful throughout the internship, which demonstrates the firm's investment on grooming the interns.
Exit interview is scheduled on tomorrow, the conversion rate into graduate seems promising.
The Culture
We had drinks and dinner after the intern-wide Development day, and 3 days of mingling during the induction week which allowed me to broaden my network considerably.
London - although the high cost of living is expected. However, I study here during term-time so most of these costs are sunk cost anyway.
London - plethora of pubs, clubs, restaurants accessible around Central London. Although it gets quite draining after work on weekday nights.
Yes - I assisted with my department's Socials Committee to design flyers for their social event and coordinated logistics for one of the drinks.
