The Role
It was a good learning experience, the team was nice and supportive, but I figured out it is not the job I want to do in the future. Still it was a valuable experience.
As an intern you should not expect to be valued to much, but my team took me most of the time into consideration and were generally nice to me.
My manager was obviously very busy with the things he was doing, but I got a lot of attention from some more junior employee which helped quite a lot and that junior employee really took some time to train and help me.
At the beginning I was very busy, but then in August things slowed down dramatically as there was not much happening in the markets. Not sure how buys one would be on a daily base, but I did not feel that it would be such a fast pace environment. That is also why I figured that it might be not the best place for me to work.
Considering the fact that I was just an intern I have to say the tasks I were given were quite important. So I am quite happy with this part of my internship.
The training and help I received were very useful and especially the bloomberg training should be very helpful for the future. Maybe not at university, but definitely for a future career in the financial industry.
The Company
The atmosphere was good and positive, but I did not feel to be included as much. However the main factor for this was different personal interests rather than my colleagues not being nice.
It was pretty well organized, but at the same time there is definitely space for improvements and I am sure they will happen in the next couple of years.
I think the company invested a fair amount of time and resources in me. At the same time I was quite lucky with this as I heard frequently from other interns that they had really nothing to do. Depends on the area where you intern I guess.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
In terms of salary the compensation is very good. I actually think a lot of employees earn much more than they should. At the same time there are only a handful of nice, interesting and challenging jobs which everybody tries to get, so I do not think the future prospects are that great. Plus a lot goes by who you know and to some part even by you are your parents, so I did not like that!
The Culture
It was pretty much ok. The company really tried to encourage that and we had some good social activities.
Lunch was always around 5pounds and if we did anything as a team the company usually paid for everything, this includes all the social events and the compensation was pretty high. Again much more than it should be in my opinion for some jobs.
I made the most out of it and there were some other interns which were good fun!
