The Role
The placement was very enjoyable overall, everyone was really nice, both interns and colleagues.
Most of the time I felt valued by colleagues, and felt that I was contributing to the work of the team and they appreciated the work I was providing.
I was given excellent support by management and supervisors on the team. I was placed into a team about which I had no prior knowledge but was helped very quickly to get up to speed. Whenever I had questions about the work I was completing the team were really helpful with assisting me, and were never anything but willing to do so.
This fluctuated because of the nature of the project. Towards the start of my internship there was a lot of work to be completed to form the bulk of the research that was required. However, towards the latter end there was very little to do as we were waiting for data to be acquired and so tasks consisted of very basic administration. Had I stayed on for a further couple of weeks I think that work would have picked up again, as analysis and report writing would have then been occurring.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, being left in charge of some crucial areas of the project. I felt that the team put a lot of trust in my capability to complete such tasks to the required standards.
The research skills that I improved during my placement will be useful going forwards, and general work related skills such as networking and managing my diary will be useful going forwards.
The Company
In general, the atmosphere around the office was good. However, the area where my team is based was very quiet.
The internship was very well organised - I always knew my schedule and bookings. Days where all interns came together, including the residential placement at the start of the internship were also well organised, and the firm clearly has a lot of experience in providing internships every year to a large number of people.
We received three days of intense residential training at the start of the internship, and two more days throughout the internship, although these were less useful. We were also given a large amount of compliance training to complete.
A job offer is normally very likely, although changing department would require a further interview.
The Culture
Although the social scene organised between interns was pretty good, this was all self organised with very little organised officially by PwC. We often went to the pub together after work, or on nights out.
London, is of course, very expensive to live and socialise in.
A good variety of clubs, bars and pubs, but obviously very expensive.
There was one social club event in the department, but we were asked to pay a significant amount as interns to get involved.
