The Role
I really enjoyed the work I was doing. I was lucky enough to be put on a number of different clients and do work on a number of different elements of the audit process so I got to see a lot. In terms of the people everyone was really welcoming and supportive. They understood that I didn't have any prior knowledge going into the internship and were willing to take the time to explain tasks and what was actually involved.
Everyone was really welcoming and willing to take the time to explain not only what the work was that I'd be doing but also what, any stages involved in the task and also a bit about the client. I was put straight out onto a client site on my first day so was well and truely thrown into the deep end being given proper work from day one, which was great and terrifying. The work that I was doing was needed and proper work. It was a really great feeling contributing to an acutal piece of work and is being reviewed by managers etc.
Whenever I started a new piece of work there was guidance as to what I was doing but it wasn't like my hand was being held all the way through. There was guidance & support if I asked for it, if I got confused later and they were willing to help but it was generally assumed that I was capable unless I asked.
Quite busy but not overworked. As with any job there were spells when I had less to do - either while I was waiting for bits from clients or for something to be prepared for me to do. There was no period where I felt overworked but this might have been to do with the clients I was on. There was one day when I had nothing to do but it was all about taking the initiative to ask around the office if there was anything that needed doing.
I wasn't like put in charge of anything but all the bits of work I did were a part of the final audit, which in itself is quite a lot of responsibility especially in your first week. All the work that we did (and that anyone on the team did) was reviewed before final submission.
There was a weeks training at the beginning of the internship which was great as I had no prior knowledge about the process of audit before going into the internship. There were also continous eleans not only about the work but also about information that we should know such as regulations etc. Whilst this won't really be relevant to my degree, in the long run it would be useful and definitely things I should know.
The Company
It was quite fun but I didn't spend a lot of time in the office. There was a bit of banter but it was harder to get involved in this as an intern. There was still a lot of work going on so was kinda varied.
Well organised, development days were planned out as were the clients I was going to be put on. This did change slightly over the course of the internship depending on what was needed but I was always forewarned enough.
All interns were given a week of training at the beginning of the internship as an introduction. There were also elearns and training to do during the course of the internship in our own time to provide additional training and information necessary.

PwC generally has a good pick-up rate from internships so hopefully.. we'll find out....
The Culture
There were a number of social events within the office but generally they relied upon you being in the office to attend, which wasn't always possible as I was out on client sites. There wasn't that much socialising with fellow placement students (there were only two in the office) but I was talking with a numebr of other interns from different offices throughout the placement.
I lived from home while I was working so living expenses were dead cheap. Living at home did make socialising harder work though. PwC were really good about expenses for travelling to and from client sites which was a plus
Nothing to do with the placement but living at home and working isn't great for nightlife. Plus generally town I live in isn't great.
There are a number of opportunities however these are more for grads and permanent employees rather than for interns, particularly when we're out on client sites.
