The Role
The work was constantly varied and exciting, and I felt like I made a significant contribution to my department.
Extremely good relationships with most people in my department from both a work and social standpoint.
The support was there when I needed it, but not to the extent where I felt micro-managed.
Projects would often come and go, signalling a flurry of work. In between projects, work was slower and I had to find ways to fill my time (usually by investing it in personal development)
I was given significant responsibilities in most areas of my department.
Skills developed were extremely relevant and I found myself learning significantly more by doing than I did just sitting in a lecture at university.
The Company
Office had a good mix of social "banter" while still remaining a professional environment.
I found that for the most part Verizon were very organised in terms of my placement. However, like many large organisations, occasionally something didn't go as expected and I had to find a solution myself (which definitely wasn't a bad thing from an experience perspective).
Verizon granted me access to their learning portal, and my colleagues within the department often gave me support when I looked into studying relevant industry courses.
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Verizon treats its employees extremely well in both pay, perks, and respect in the company. If you are prepared to invest in yourself as much as Verizon invests in you, you can go very far in the company.
The Culture
Although I didn't work at the main Verizon office like many of the other interns, the interns and colleagues in my department often went out and I did lead an active social life.
As I was in London, and not Reading as the majority of other interns were, I found myself facing considerably higher prices for both living and socialising.
Personally, I don't enjoy the nightlife as much as others I know do. However, in the location I worked in (again, in London and not in Verizon's Reading office), did offer a short walk into Camden and a quick tube journey into the centre of London.
Beyond some offers from colleagues to go to events, there were no company proposed activities that I was involved in.
