The Role
PwC is like no other firm I've come across. I've done several internship and insight programmes, and this one was by far the most rewarding, and definitely the friendliest!
I was given plenty of responsibility, leading calls and completing real client work with minimal supervision. Help was never far away (we are all assigned a 'buddy' to answer all our numerous questions!), but it was great to work on something 'real' during my internship. We also had a team lunch every Friday which integrated me into the team quickly!
The support available was very impressive. At all levels, everyone is very down to earth and willing to answer your questions, and they'll gladly give feedback and helpful hintsn for improvement in the future.
As it was the summer and many clients were on holiday, some days were a little slow. However, I always had something to do!
Real client work and real responsibility! Someone always checks your work to be sure (as you'd expect!), but you really are valued and trusted within a short space of time.
Not only do you pick up real technical knowledge of your line of service, the networking skills you gain are invaluable. I can't believe how much confidence I've gained in just 6 weeks!
The Company
Plenty to get involved with, including lunch time learning sessions, breakfasts and team social events. The focus is on client work, but it's a very relaxed and friendly environment to work in.
A few aspects of away days could have used some polishing, but the overall programme was extremely well organised, and I always knew where I was meant to be, and when!
I was really encouraged to learn - technical reading of legislation etc was followed up with 'learning by doing' in relevant client work. I was really impressed at the amount of time people took to explain concepts and clients to me.

The internship is a great way to secure a graduate job - you already have a relationship with PwC which gives you a really great headstart! I've been offered a job for next year, so I'm really pleased!
The Culture
I feel like I've made friends for life with my fellow interns - I can't wait to work with them next year! We've been out on several occasions for social drinks, and ate lunch together every day.
Manchester is really reasonable. I have to mark it down a little as I live so far away, so this caused complications on a personal level, but socialising is inexpensive in the city!
Manchester is a great place to go out - plenty of variety to suit everyone.
I got tons of emails about various sport and leisure meetings outside of work, including the PwC pantomime!
