About You
The scheme was enjoyable in some aspects. However i feel that most of the work i was given was slightly menial and extremely repetitive. Found myself doing the same thing most days. This is understandable given that you are unlikely to be given highly important jobs with zero knowledge of the industry, but i feel i could have been given more interesting tasks.
The people i did work for were always very grateful and always friendly. However i felt like the work i was doing was not much value to the firm, more a way to keep me occupied. Didnt feel a hugely valued member of the team.
Every task given to me would be very clearly explained and people were always more than happy to take the time to explain things to me if i was unclear on something. Buddy was always there to help with any problems which was nice.
It should assist me because i learnt to prioritse work and deal with having quite a lot of work at once. It also was useful in improving my communication skills, especially when meeting senior members of staff.
The Company
Not great. Often found myself with nothing to do and would have to ask for work. However whenever i asked there would usually always be something for me to do. Sometimes given slightly pointless tasks when there was nothing else for me to do.
Everyone was very friendly in the office, however it was extremely quiet which would mean it was quite dull at times. The atmosphere could have been better, but i guess people are there to work not talk!
Didnt invest massively, had one induction day which was slightly pointless. Didnt have any training days or anything like that. didnt get any chance to deal with clients but as i said this would be unlikely given lack of knowledge.
Had permanent desk so would observe those around me and got a good understanding of the work they did and what a job there would be like. also spent a lot of time with new grads so knew what it would be like for first few weeks as a grad.
same as any other big 4 i guess. a lot of competition between them.
very valuable. not sure if a career in tax is for me as it was quite dull, but i did see that the work does get a lot more interesting the more senior you are, as youd expect.
Everything Else
pay was pretty good. roughly £80 a day or so (i think)
no, would have been nice to have been able to spend some time in another dept and get a better idea of how the other areas of tax operate.
couple of socials arranged for the interns which were quite a good laugh. my dept didnt particularly go out all that much but heard some others saying that they had been taken out for lots of meals etc
no didnt hear anything about outside activites. although a lot of employees did go to the deloitte gym after/before work.
i would recommend it given that deloitte is a great name to have on the cv and somebody else may really enjoy the work, however not sure a career in tax is for me after the experience. This is useful to find out now though rather than later
