The Role
Really great insight into the firm and seeing what the daily procedures required for an auditor are. I got the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and was given a high level of responsibility right from the start which made me feel part of the team.
The teams I worked with were really friendly and took the time to chat to us and made us feel welcomed as a colleague, rather than 'just' an intern. We were invited to a social events with the office as well which were great, such as seeing a show at the Fringe.
For most of my projects, I had great guidance and support from my supervisors who were absolutely fine with any small or stupid questions I had. For one project this was slightly harder as my supervisor was extremely busy herself.
For the majority of the placement, I had just the right amount of work to do and if I had finished, I would just assist other members of the team. If I didn't have something specific to do, we had a Dragon's Den challenge we could also work on.
We were given a lot more responsibility than I was expecting for an intern, which was great because it meant we got a proper experience of the kind of work we would be doing.
The skills I developed will help me with perseverance and thinking about the fine details of processes.
The Company
Everyone was really friendly and there was a good level of banter.
For so many interns, it was organised smoothly on both the national and regional level.
We had a 3 day residential at the beginning of the internship and also a development day at the halfway point of the internship.
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a grad position for next year.
The Culture
We met for intern mid-week drinks and also joined in with some social events at work.
The Fringe festival was going on during the summer so that was a great thing to experience.
Edinburgh nightlife has something for everyone.
We were given contact names for people we could talk to about joining sports team and societies.
