The Role
i enjoyed all aspects mainly working with suppliers and creating relationships both with internal and external clients
i felt valued by all employees but i didnt feel empoloyees appriciated your work/time and effort most of the time especially as i was on placement
my assistant buyer was exstreamly helpful i worked very closely with her and was able to ask her anything. my buyer was never really available for me to learn from although when i did i learnt a lot. i would have appricated more one to one with my buyer or even reviews every other month to review my progress etc (as this only happened once)
most of the time i was really rushed off my feet a lot of pressure and not a lot of time to get things done! i spent most nights working late just to ensure i was up to date for the next day. i think you never really learn how to manage time untill your under pressure so this has helped me become more organised the only thing i found a struggle was when all my team went on a buying trip for 2 weeks and i was left to do approvals and many things i didnt feel 100% comfortable doing on my own without any help(only communication through email and text). After only a couple of months working at Matalan i did find this to be a huge shock to me as i had to deal with the pressure whilst i was also still learning.
i had a lot of responsibility which i believe i was able to live up to by the end of the placement the new starters where asking me what to do and i did find that very rewarding
it has helped me to decide what i want to do in the future and helped me develop skills and confidence to purse this career when i graduate.
The Company
nice atmosphere and very friendly
good set up
i was trained very basic but to be honest i picked things up very easily the only thing i would have liked to do was to be trained on excel more
there was no perks received on placement so i did wonder about the future of my career at Matalan as i often worked overtime but got no pay at all.
The Culture
yes but we never met up to discuss how our placements going to be honest i rarely had a dinner time so i wasnt able to catch up with other placement students when i would have liked to have seen how others were progressing
no different to being at home
i never went out with my work colleagues only on the christmas doo
nothing i was aware of
