The Role
I loved working at SAS. The work was fun and valued by the company.
Everyone welcomed us warmly and we were made to know everyone's roles and how long they have been within the company.
I was given support without asking and whenever I needed assistance with the work I could ask my supervisor or any member of the team.
The placement was so well organised that we had something to do every single day. The first two weeks consisted of training and group work with other students and then the next four weeks we were given individual tasks for which we had to manage our own time.
I kept in touch with my project leader and department manager throughout the placement but it was up to me to complete the task I was given and produce all deliverables.
Really relevant skills for anyone studying ITMB or anything similar. Brought to life all the theory which I had learnt in my first year of studies and will give more meaning to my studies in the future. Also, I have now experienced working in an office (even though I expect much less standards within a normal company) and I understand the realities of work.
The Company
Everyone was hard working but also very friendly. I had a lot of fun working with my department and with the other students.
Very well indeed! We knew exactly what to expect from day one and were given a timetable for the six weeks ahead. There was plenty to get stuck into and we learnt so many valuable skills.
We attended two SAS public training courses which both cost the company a lot of money. We also had training within the company and I had some project-specific training within my department.

Company Parties/Events
I have talked with several colleagues who have offered to try and help me find a year in industry with the company.
The Culture
We met up most nights to eat out or go to the cinema. The company also arranged two meals for us with staff involved in the placement (EXPENSES PAID!)
It was hard to find somewhere cheap to live but in the end we were lucky enough to find rooms from £75 a week (two students stayed with friends for free and others house-shared). We spent a lot of time in High Wycombe and Slough where there is a larger range of restaurants and more things to do.
There are several bars in Marlow but no nightclubs. We didn't explore High Wycombe, Slough or Reading
