About You
Very insightful with lots of networking opportunity. Unfortunately there were no work shadowing available for the divisions I am interested but the case studies and workshops were extremely useful.
Everyone was really friendly and willing to answer our questions. The HR team was always there to help and the representatives from the business were extremely friendly and willing to share their experience within the company. Great feeling of inclusiveness and I'd love to join the company upon graduation.
The HR team was always there to help: whenever I got lost a member of the HR team was always there to guide. The information pack that was given out at the beginning of the week was very informative and contains all the information needed for the week, including maps of the venues and the schedule for the week. Everything was well-structured.
There were many workshops throughout the week to help us improve our skills in banking, many through interactive games and presentation which was closely related to the business. The stock pitch game for example, allows us to gain insight as to what the business would do in Global Markets and Research. There were also members of the staff to assist us during the stock pitch with technical knowledge and information. The other game I really enjoyed was the trading game, which helped us to gain insights into Sales and Trading. Again there were members from the business to assist us throughout the game My communication skills and ability to make fast decisions have greatly improved.
The Company
Overall very well-structured, as mentioned in earlier sections. The only thing that I would add is that there are, occasionally, too many breaks between the sessions (partly because the session before finished early, especially on the first day). Other than that, everything is perfectly structured and clear to us.
On a whole this week was very fun and informative. The opportunity to network with the business was invaluable and the skills I learnt during the workshops will prove immensely useful in the future. I would definitely recommend this programme to my peers who are interested in the financial sector and I hope I'd have an opportunity to join the bank in the future.
For most of the skills session and workshops general feedback were given. However, it'd be great if we could also receive more individual feedback on how we could improve individually.
This insight week is very informative as mentioned in the earlier sections. Although work shadowing wasn't possible for the divisions I am interested in, the case studies gave us some very clear directions on what to expect (it is almost like a simulation of what you are expected to do on the job). Furthermore, the bankers we met during the week were very friendly and willing to answer our questions.
One thing I really enjoyed about this insight is the people I met during the week. Everyone was really friendly and encouraged us to ask questions, from analyst to MD. There were also presentations from the CSR department to highlight the bank's commitment to the community that it operates in. This open and friendly culture is really consistent throughout the bank and I really enjoyed my time at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
All the skills sessions, workshops and case studies gave us a very clear idea of what it is like to be working in. It gave us a taste of most of the divisions that we indicated as interested and reasonable networking opportunities for us to explore other areas of the bank. I think this insight week strike the perfect balance between breadth and depth.
Everything Else
My travel expenses were reimbursed. Accommodation was also provided.
Plentiful. Please see below for the comment.
We had networking events everyday throughout the week (except Tuesday), and a variety of representatives were presented during the networking events from investment banking to global markets and risk and compliance. The networking events were set in a very relaxed atmosphere and I thoroughly enjoyed all the networking events, especially the closing dinner on Thursday. We had 2-3 employees coming from the division that we indicated as interested to sit in our table and dine with us. This allows us to develop a closer relationship with the bankers which I really enjoyed and it was definitely the highlight of the week.
Yes. As mentioned we had a CSR Presentation from the bank to learn more about how the bank contribute to the community that it operates in. There were also a diversity panel discussion for us to learn about the embracing culture of the firm and the supports it gives to the minorities.
Based on the amount of information and the great experience I had in this week I will recommend this insight to a friend without hesitation.
