The Role
The year was very enjoyable for both the job role and social aspects. Gained a lot of exposure throughout the year with great opportunity for development and gaining commercial experience.
Felt like a valued member of my department trusted to complete all work given to me. Good internship program set up with business appreciative of work completed by interns with real responsibility given.
Very detailed feedback was given to me twice during the year from my line manager which helped me to improve my year at Mattel. My line manager was very supportive throughout the year offering appreciation for my work.
Very slow at the start of the placement with little to do day-to-day but quickly changed and got busier as the placement went on with some days being very busy. Always work to do within the department, you just have to ask for it.
A fair amount with exposure of working with customers, brand launches and leading projects. Interns were given a high amount of responsibility within the business.
A slight negative would be lack of training received. However I have gained skills from the year which will be used in last year of university and career. Learnt a new side of marketing which I wish to pursue as a career which I wouldn't have known unless my placement at Mattel.
The Company
Generally very good with a chilled out atmosphere. Social events were arranged which were a good laugh.
Good placement program which seemed valued across the business. Meetings are set up to discuss any problems and feedback. Job descriptions don't seem set in stone with lack of structure of what you are doing on a day to day basis,
Lack of training courses throughout the year for interns however one was offered which was useful.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
No graduate scheme offered however there is opportunity to come back after university with interns being employed after graduation.
The Culture
Good social scene among interns with night outs or drinks happening fairly often. 5-a-side football every Tuesday night and got to play in a football tournament in Frankfurt with other Mattel employees.
Not as cheap as university but wasn't too bad considering being close to London.
Maidenhead isn't the best but Reading and Windsor are only a short train ride away which have decent student nights.
Plenty of opportunity to get involved with charity and social events. Had the chance to go to the Isle of Wight on a charity bike ride with 9 other Mattel colleagues.
