The Role
The placement was well organised and included lots of intern tailored events to give us a good overview of the company and sector in which it operates. This led to an enjoyable learning experience, opening my eyes to the financial sector of technology.
I was placed in a team which not only stepped up to help me, but also relied upon me to learn and feedback information to the team about new tools and technologies which they would need to learn.
My manager and colleagues provided support through work shadows and talks explaining their lines of work, as well as providing an open environment to ask questions within the team.
Due to my team's ongoing support roles I was left to work independently on a project, which whilst took quite long to grasp and learn the technology, left me without much to do once learnt. This couldn't be helped due to the team's lack of knowledge relating to it.
I was entrusted with learning a technology and creating support via documentation, tools and one-to-one sessions to teach and help the rest of the team with the technology. This meant I had to ensure I knew what I was talking about and could provide adequate resources to streamline the process for the others.
The skills I've learnt here will prove useful in a variety of ways, most importantly it has improved my ability to express and explain my thoughts on topics which I was more knowledgeable than others within the team. It has also helped me work within the boundaries of deadlines to ensure other projects are not further delayed.
The Company
The office has a nice open place design, allowing team mates and other close by teams to casually chat to one another, as well as breakout areas for lunching and chilling for a while.
The internship was very well organised with weekly emails to ensure we knew what we were doing and were staying on track. Lots of intern-friendly events were organised with the aim to improve our skill set and break out of our shell.
The company tried its best to offer as many opportunities to help develop our outlook and skills; such as volunteering, networking, tech talks, business talks and team games.
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
JP Morgan are keen for new recruits and I'd be crazy not to join them given the benefits and experience.
The Culture
Both events provided by the company and from within the group I was in provided a great social scene between both the interns and grads.
Where JP Morgan is based (Glasgow Central) means local nights can be expensive, but catching a train, bus or even a wee walk away means a cheaper night out.
Given it was in the city center the nightlife was good.
We were recruited into a local volunteering day out in a community allotment site which gave a us a nice contrast to the standard office work.
