The Role
Before I started my placement I wasn't sure what to expect. I had really (surprisingly!) enjoyed the recruitment process - the interviews and assessment day were not scary and I felt as though everyone I spoke with wanted me to do well and get the job. Once I had been informed I got the placement in April, I still had my uni exams to get through so hadn't given the actual job much thought. The training week was great fun, the environment enthusiastic yet not too pressurised. After that week, I was based in the Glasgow City Centre branch. As the branch is so busy, we were thrown into the role as soon as we started, which at first was scary, but looking back on it I can see it was a highly effective way of learning the role. Even though it was daunting at first, I had so much support from the great team and I have grown to have great friendships with colleages both within and at other branches. All in all, I loved the time I have spent with Enterprise so far.
At my branch, no matter how busy we were, there was always a happy, positive attitude. When I was training, I was a bit scared of asking questions at first, but all my colleagues, without exception, went out of their way to teach and demonstrate how things worked etc. When I did well, the praise for managers and colleagues a like was lovely and really spurred me on.
If you read any advert for a job with Enterprise, you will see the emphasis that they put on how important the employees are to them. After my internship, I can see that they do really care about staff and that they are committed to developing you to move forward. My branch manager was great with the support he gave to the interns (and other staff), even when he was busy.
I was at one of the busier branches in Scotland so we were definitely never quiet! As well as day-to-day renting of cars, we were given some extra roles which were on the whole great, although could occasionally be forgotton about if we were constantly serving customers! However, being so busy meant that we had a lot of experience early on, making me feel as though I was important to the company as I could perform my roles effectively.
I was surprised with the amount of responsibilty that I was given during my placement. After the first week or so, I was completely full transactions on my own (and with a few extra questions) was able to perform my role effectively. As mentioned before, we were also given extra tasks such as liasing with corporate clients and chasing accounts receivables.
Working in the professional environment of Enterprise Rent-A-Car has been invaluable to me in both my studies in my final year and deciding on a career once I graduate. It has helped me relate my degree to actual working life and openned my eyes to opportunties that I may not have thought of. I would strongly consider coming back to Enterprise Rent-A-Car as a Management Trainee as a result of my intern experience.
The Company
The branch was very sociable and also it was great to meet up with all the other interns.
The internship was really well thought out and definitely delivered on what had been promised. However, it would have been good to see some variety at different branches.
I feel that Enterprise, both my managers and the HR department, invested a significant amount of personal effort into training myself and to make sure that I made the most of my experience.
Company Parties/Events
I would seriously consider returning to Enterprise after my graduation.
The Culture
My branch was very sociable, I have made some great friends and had some fantastic nights out!
I lived at home in Paisley for the summer, so I had to travel in and out everyday but that wasn't really a problem.
Glasgow is always good for a night out!
We were good at organising things ourselves but there weren't many work-organised activities!
