Application Developer Review

I was quite apprehensive before I started my placement that I would not enjoying working and would struggle to get used to an office job. However, after the first week my concerns were completely gone as I felt totally settled and accepted into my team and the company.

I felt completely part of my immediate working team and was allocated tasks just like an ordinary member of the team would be. My work was part of their ongoing project and I wasn't given a side project that would never be used. I know that some of my work is already in production and other work will be released in the future. Outside of my team, any other JP Morgan colleagues I meet could only give positive feelings about interns and their value to the company.

My manager provided me with all the support I needed. He wasn't over the top of me and let me challenge myself and my ability without leaving me totally stuck with no solution. The networking events put on CDP gave me a great opportunity to meet other managers, who I felt were also very supportive and encouraging.

I was as busy as I wanted to be. At no point did I feel far too busy with not enough time in the day but at other points, I did have additional time on my hands which was a bit boring. I think this was also due to the fact this was my first experience of full time work and I needed time to get used to a full working day. As it got to the end of my internship, I've got a good structure to my day and a good balance of work.

I was given tasks similar to the other people on my team. Therefore, I had a similar level of responsibility to everyone else.

I have learned more in my ten weeks at JP Morgan than I have in my three years at university. The skills I have learned are practical and will aid my studies next year and also in the future.

The atmosphere in the office was much better than my expectations. I expected that working in an application development team, that there would be total silence with very little communication but it was the opposite. Although I wouldn't say there was constant chatting, there was enough to keep you entertained and productive at the same time.

The internship was structured very well and I had constant communication with the recruiters and CDP. Events were organised for meeting managers, networking with other employees and gaining more technical skills.

I learned as much as I wanted to learn. You can push your own learning and the company provide ample resources to do so.

Hopefully I'll get a place on the Graduate Scheme for 2014, I find out on my last day of my internship!

There were plenty of opportunities to social with other colleagues and even though I was only there ten weeks, I think there was 5 or 6 social events either laid on for the interns or organised by graduates.

Can't really comment on this one as I am from Glasgow so for me the prices are normal. I'd say there are plenty orf choices for cheap, affordable or expensive places to live and socialise depending on your budget.

Just as good as an city really! Plenty of choice of bars, clubs and restaurants to choose from.

Probably more for guys with the likes of football on Thursday nights but I'm sure there are similar clubs for woman but I didn't find out.
