The Role
Very interesting and enjoyable 10 weeks with exposure to all areas of corporate banking.
I felt welcomed by the whole team, everybody was happy to help.
Manager was always happy to answer questions and provide advice. I was given regular performance reviews.
I was busy most days, at times when I had no set tasks to do I was always able to assist others with their workload.
I was given a lot of responsibility. Communicated directly with the bank's clients and recommended changes to processes, which have been implemented across Scotland.
Skills I have developed will be easily transferrable beyond Santander and banking.
The Company
Very hard working but fun culture within the office. Everybody is very busy but they always have time for a joke, resulting in a pleasant working environment.
Santander are working hard to improve their intern programme, as it has only been running for three years. Much of the organisation is left to the line manager, therefore each intern will have a different experience.
Santander have put a lot of investment into their internship scheme, organising a networking and training event early on, which all UK interns attend together. My manager was always happy to offer advice and support.
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Santander are very keen to convert their interns onto the graduate scheme.
The Culture
Santander provides contact details for all interns across the UK, making it easy to arrange to meet other interns at the same location. I met up with other interns for lunch several times.
As I live in Glasgow, I experienced no difference in cost. The city has a lower cost of living when compared to other major cities such as London or Edinburgh.
Glasgow is well known for its excellent nightlife and culture.
Attended an office night out on an evening cruise boat down the river.
