The Role
My placement was really varied and there were plenty of opportunities to help out on different projects. I enjoyed working with such a range of interesting colleagues and had plenty of opportunities to learn from other people.
Very much so. Everyone seemed really willing to offer help or advice if I needed it and everyone was really appreciative of the work interns did.
My manager organised regular 1 to 1s with me and I always felt really comfortable asking for support. She was particularly good at communicating information to me and keeping me in the loop throughout my internship.
Although I could have had a bit more work to do in the first few weeks, as I was given greater responsibilities and my project progressed, I had plenty of work to do. Also, other team members offered work when my workload was low, allowing me to try out different projects.
Inevitiably, I got more and more responsibility throughout my placement. By the second half of my internship, I was responsible for several projects and was working on these mostly independently.
I am feeling much more confident about my job applications now compared to before this internship and have developed lots of demonstratable skills which I think will help me in my next job. The job application and interview workshop provided by the charity half way through my placement was also really useful.
The Company
Although I was working in a very hard-working office, there were plenty of interesting conversations to be had with colleagues and everyone was really friendly throughout my palcement.
Very well. The volunteer placement manager kept in regular contact with both the interns and our managers.
The job application and interview training was really helpful. There wer also other opportunities, such as mentoring schemes or visits outside of the office.
Subsidised Canteen
Very. I would definitely look out for opportunities to work with the charity and everyone who works there seems to be very impressed with them as an employer.
The Culture
There were plenty of social events to get involved in and there was really good communication between the interns.
Being in London, cost of living was obviously rather high, but Angel was slightly cheaper than more central areas of London.
There were plenty of bars and pubs in the local area.
As interns, we were informed of opportunities to get involved in fundraising events or volunteering. In addition, there were plenty of opportunities to sety up our own events or activites.
