The Role
The work was pitched at the right level, and I learnt a lot while also being able to practically use the knowledge I've gained at university.
Got on really well with colleagues, and felt that they valued the work I had done.
Plenty of training material was provided, and I felt comfortable asking for help when I needed it.
Had enough work that I was never left at a loose end, but just enough that I could finish what I was working on by the end of the placement.
I was given full responsibility for the projects I was working on, but they weren't critical projects, more side projects that no-one in the team had had the chance to work on.
Seeing my degree knowledge put into context was very useful, and my understanding of hardware and several programming languages has increased rapidly over the last few months.
The Company
Got on well with my co-workers, and the atmosphere was fun and jokey.
Generally very well organised, I knew what I was supposed to be doing at each stage of the internship.
Almost a third of my time was spent on training, so there was a strong impression that I was seen as a future investment.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Fully intend to return for a placement in the future, and hopefully eventually a full-time job.
The Culture
Didn't get involved a huge amount, but there was plenty going on, and the other placement students were easy to get on with.
Very close to home, so more or less what I was used to.
Did not explore.
Some sports and social events occurred, though several of these would have required signing up for before I arrived.
