The Role
The work was varied and each day was differernet which was great as it allowed me to get a feel for different acitivites within my function and also in other functions.
I was told from the start that I should challenge colleagues or even senior managers if I disagreed with what they said, therefore this made me feel like more than just a summer intern and I felt treated as an acutal full time employee.
Everyone within the company seems very willing to lend a help in hand if you need anything. Anything that I wanted clarification on or extra help with, there was always someone more than willing to offer help and advice, be it personally or professionally.
Toward the start of the internship becuase it was a very busy period for my team I felt as though I needed to take the initiative to speak to people to gain extra knowledge to assist me in my project. However, when my project gained momentum my schedule became a lot busier.
The work that I have done will be used on a quarterly basis after I leave. It will have an impact on the way that my team will do future work therefore, meaning that my responsibility levels were high.
The skill that I have developed the most whilst here is my presentation skills and my verbal communication skills regarding my work. Before the internship I had had little experience to presenting to a group of people. Whilst on the internship I have presented my work on numerous occasions, allowing me to practice my skills.
The Company
My colleagues whilst sat at their desks are mainly focussed on the work that they are doing and so there is not always a fun atmosphere. However away from the desks, the atomosphere of the whole office is great; people are very relaxed about most things.
It was clear from the start what my project involved and what was expected of me. The only criticism was that the way it was set out, it was only the second half of my internship whereby people could see my work. My recommendation for the future would be to add in a smaller project during the first half of the internship.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The graduate scheme looks like it would be one of the best schemes out there because of the work life balance offered and the qualification that it offers.
The Culture
I got to know people very well, however this was had nothing to do with the company or the internship scheme; we all had our first day together which was useful to speak to other interns but social activities throughout were arranged by ourselves.
The interns were spread around various locations and so travel between was not always the best. Having a car was a huge benefit.
Had to travel for nightlife. London was very expensive to get back from.
Five a side football every week, a few soical activities arranged by the social committee but most of the events were organised by interns by word of mouth or social network sites.
