The Role
There were good and bad bits in regards to the placement. However when I wasn't enjoying the work too much, the other staff in the office was always great and had a good laugh. Also was able to build good relationships with other interns and staff from other branches. Overall, enjoyed the internship and it was a good thing to do over summer.
To start with felt a bit of a nuisance as was asking lots of questions. Although, as gained more experience felt like a more valued member of the team.
Given a lot of support from managers to improve and make sure everything was going well. Help was always available and felt I could always ask if needed.
Quite busy most of the time, but varied whether it was due to customers or busy with lots of admin work.
Given quite a lot of responsibility, had on set of responsibilities every day in regards to getting admin work done. Again given responsibility with customers " what do you think" and being able to make your own decision.
Don't think it linked much to my degree as didn't get much chance to see that area of the business. But gave a general overview of what is required for management of a business. Helped in regards to whether wanting to pursue a career in sales or not.
The Company
Good atmosphere in the office, good fun and lots of laugh with all workers in the branch and some customers.
On the whole seemed to be well organised, on a few occasions some parts seemed to be a bit last minute. On the whole pretty well done.
Felt there was lots of training provided, making several trips down to head office during the 3 month period. Also regular reviews on how you feel your getting on and if anything can be done to improve.
Not something I would rule out, but not something I would say for certain I would pursue as a career. A lot of long hours and lower pay at the first few levels, however once promoted seems more appealing.
The Culture
Was not really any opportunities to interact with any colleagues at all. Had one chance to have a get together with all other interns, however situated quite far away from everyone else so didn't really get a chance.
Live at home in area, so no difference.
Again live in the place where worked so nightlife isn't special, however didn't go out much while working due to early mornings
No activities outside of work that were related to work, whether it was with people I worked with. Just own usual pasttimes.
