About You
I throughly enjoyed my Insight placement at Savills. After intial training, an induction and meeting the team I was working within for the month, I was integrated into the role very quickly and always had work to get on with. The team were friendly and many are former Insight students themselves so are very approachable.
I was given high profile work to complete and my opinion was valued when working on projects. Although nowhere near an expert in this field, I felt that I was listened to and my ideas were genuinely considered.
Everyone within the team was happy to talk to me and offer advice about my work, Savills and the industry in general. They offered great support and I always felt that I could approach them without being a bother.
I worked in a niche field of QS whilst at Savills but it gave me the opportunity to travel to a newly constructed site, carry out a site survey and take off from drawings as well as reading and taking data from actual construction legal documents and business financial statements.
The Company
The programme was very well structured, extremely well organised and at no point was I confused about the details of my placement.
Make no mistake - Savills expect you to turn up and work from the minute you start until you walk out the door. Everyone is approachable and friendly but it's a large office where you won't know everyone and you are expected to work. I prefer this atmosphere but if you prefer a more laid back and sleepy office then Savills may not appeal to you.
Offered good intial training and induction lectures and documentation and the team were happy to talk through the work set to me as I progressed.
It gave a good window into the type of employee Savills expect you to be, what they offer to you in terms of training, salary and experience and the atmosphere at the office.
It definitely made me think about my future in the industry and I will be applying for the Savills graduate scheme as soon as it opens for applications.
Everything Else
I was paid the sum of £1000 for the Insight programme. This was a good sum to be paid as many other companies with simular schemes only offer reimbursement.
The insight graduates went on plenty of tours and attended lunches together which allowed for much socialising with one another.
Savills has many Sports teams that employees can join and take part in outside of work.
I would definitely recommend this insight scheme to another student as it offers a fantastic opportunity to work for a leading company within the industry and get a better idea of what is expected of a QS post graduation.
