The Role
Great people, plenty of work to do on a variety of different and interesting projects and many networking opportunities sums up my experience. I recommend applying.
There was always plenty to do and so I felt useful for the reason that the jobs I did freed up time for my colleagues. My colleagues were always very encouraging and appreciated the work that I did.
Any tasks were always very clearly explained and I always felt able to ask for clarification or help. The HR team were very helpful and gave plenty of support. Half way through the placement you have a mid-placement review which helps highlight where more support is needed and proved very helpful.
There was always work to do and colleagues would always ask how much you already had to do before giving more work. As a result, I was always busy with plenty to do, but never to much.
I was given enough. Never too much or too little.
I cannot stress enough the value of doing this placement in this regard. You can only fully understand what a planning consultant does and learn the practical skills needed by actually trying it. Savills has a lot of experienced people and is involved in so many different areas and this meant that the experience I gained was of very high quality. I was also fortunate enough to be on placement during the Graduate planning day and was allowed to go along with the Graduates and get some really useful and inspiring training from the people development team.
The Company
The office is a great place to work and has just been refurbished. The atmosphere is proffessional.
Brilliantly organised, always knew what was happening and when and had a great time.
I was fortunate to be on placement in June during the National Planning Conference and Graduate Planning Day and was allowed to go along to both. The Graduate Planning Day was really helpful, we learnt networking skills, all about the APC and also how to go about personal career development and the skills involved. There were also plenty of talks to go to giving an overview of the wide range of work Savills does. The work I did during the placement and the experiences I had were all very beneficial.
I will definitely be applying to the Graduate Scheme as a result of this placement.
The Culture
Definitley! I had a lot of fun! Colleagues and students often went to the pub after work and being in the heart of London meant there were always things to do.
I lived in London and so living costs were not an extra expense.
London has great nightlife with loads of pubs, bars and events to go to.
There are opportunities if you keep an eye out for them. I ended up playing in a hockey match for Savills!
