The Role
The work was both challenging and rewarding, which is what I was hoping for in doing this placement.
I always felt that I was doing something useful for the team.
My manager and mentor were consistently excellent at providing support when I needed it. This was especially useful as I had no prior programming experience.
I always had things to be doing - the workload was demanding but not unreasonable
I was tasked with adjusting software that was running in production - it was therefore important that it didn't go wrong!
I had no programming experience before my placement, so gaining some experience in this was extremely valuable.
The Company
Hard work was always required but the office overall felt relaxed.
Organisation was generally excellent.
Most training was on the job with a dedicated mentor to help me with problems.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
They were an exciting organisation who clearly take good care of their employees - I will be interested in applying for further placements/jobs in the future.
The Culture
A dedicated intern mailing list allowed easy organisation of events between interns, while other social clubs could be easily found on the company directory.
Metaswitch provided subsidised housing for interns, which kept all of us close by (within walking distance).
Many sports clubs and societies were available.
