The Role
Overall was an enjoyable experience where I was able to learn a lot, meet new people and see the industry a bit more, the placement picked up towards the end as I gained greater knowledge, was more confident and had built up links with the right people, after finishing a task and not having a lot to do this encouraged me to get speak to more people, get involved with more things and exposed to me to greater opportunities.
Good environment in the office, shown guidance when asked despite the high demands of the project.
Line manager and co tried to structure my placement so I'm able to experience each of the different teams of the department to gain a grounded experience during my placement.
Really varied throughout the 10 weeks, sometimes I'll have a large amount to get through and have a set task that'll take me a few days and even a a deadline while other times it was quite the opposite.
Varied with tasks, some of the work I was producing was to be sent onto senior management and so I had more responsibility, while other work tasks were of less significance.
Knowledge gained ranging from understanding about the specific type of contract, specific tasks which I was carrying out and a greater insight into the nature of the industry and individual sector.
The Company
most up for a laugh and a chat and group discussion in between work.
the teams my line manager wanted me to spend time with were drawn out at the beginning out of the placement while it was left to me to coordinate and direct this throughout the 10 weeks.
I was able to sit through a non-industry related course and gain a certificate, as well as have my health & safety test organised to be sat in order to qualify for my CSCS card
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
I was on a JV made up of 3 companies one being Costain although the prospects with Costain look promising as they continually invest in graduate offering an attractive starting package, and a project portfolio of major interest being involved as a contractor in some of the nations most key assets.
The Culture
only 1 other.
quite cheap coming from London to the north, social scene not really experienced as I came home over the weekends.
wasn't able to experience the town nightlife, although I was close the Newcastle a massive night out.
played football with people from the office and a few other related companies.
