The Role
Everyone in the team was very welcoming and was happy to help if I had any questions or wanted to know anything. The internship itself was very flexible, and you were encouraged to arrange days where you could have an insight to other departments you may be interested in
The work I did contributed to the performance of the team, making me feel like I was a permament member of the team rather than just an intern.
I had weekly meetings with my line manager, to go through the past week and look at the week ahead. My supervisors all treated me as an equal and gave me fantastic support and encouragement with work and working life.
Depending on the tasks you have to do, sometimes there is some downtime. But having this downtime was extremely helpful as this time can be used to contact people in other departments and arrange meetings with departments you want to know more about.
I was given responsibilty over a range of tasks, both daily, weekly and monthy. However if I was unsure about anything, my team were willing to help.
My skills have been greatly developed, particularly with excel and powerpoint. I also learnt a lot about the banking industry and santander as a firm and how it operated. For sure, my commercial awareness has been developed as well as giving me insight into working life after university.
The Company
The area I was in in the office was very dynamic, although there is a working atmosphere and sometimes it was tense due to deadlines, everyone was quite laid back and the general atmosphere was good and welcoming.
The grad recruitment team itself i felt was a bit disorganised, with multiple emails which were the same being sent out, and the same questions being asked. However from the point of being in the team and organisation from my manager, this was very good, with one-to-ones every week which meant that any concerns were addressed. A lot of the organisation of the internship is also up to yourself, being proactive definitely helps!
