The Role
The Savills Summer Scheme was an great way to learn more about Savills as a company and the property industry. I carried my internship out at one of Savills' regional office where I felt I had the chance to experience different departments of the commercial team - this gave me the chance to meet as many people and see how each department is run. During my time at Savills I got the chance to number of site visits which allowed me to meet clients and view projects first-hand.
Everyone was very welcoming from the first day, my mentor was able to introduce me to everyone and the London HR team were constantly in contact.
I felt the support give by my supervisor was great - I was always shown what to do and felt comfortable to ask any questions at any time.
During my time at Savills I was constantly busy - from being shown projects, to going on site visits, to doing individual work. If ever I finished work there was always another little bit for me to do.
Compared to other internships I felt I had l little responsibility. However due to it only being a month internship and I was moved around department this was not a problem,
I felt the internship increased not only my commercial awareness but my business mindset. It was great being able to carry out a months work and the training provided has assisted me in graduate applications and will be invaluable preparation for my future career in property.
The Company
Really friendly office, everyone from the graduates to the directors were friendly! I think particularly because it was during the summer there was a good atmosphere with groups going for lunch and drinks during lunch.
The whole experience was great - everyone was their to welcome me and the contact with HR team in London was great. The end-of-placement interview was a great way for both the student and the company to give feedback on the internship.
No training and development courses were offered to the regional placement students and this could be something that Savills could consider in the future.
Very good.
The Culture
Very good - there were a number of team sports event on while I was there. While I was always included in group lunches with the other graduates.
Compared to London the cost of living and socialising was a lot cheaper/
Very good - their is a good social scene in the city centre of Manchester (in particular the nightlife!)
Yes - as a city Manchester has lots of opportunities to be involved in sports clubs and other activities outside work.
