The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and gladly accepted their job offer to start as a graduate.
I felt very valued by all my colleagues as I was always thanked for the work I completed for them and they appreciated my input.
I was given a lot of guidance from whoever I was completing my work for and could also ask my manager for support if I did not understand jobs I was given.
I was a lot busier than I initially expected however, it all depends on how much you put yourself out there. When my supervisor or immediate manager did not have work I told my department I was free and they gladly gave me work to do.
I was immediately working on real work for real clients from day one. I was able to sit in meeting with partners which gave me a huge insight into the larger clients. Also I was able to go to client sites and speak to clients and ask questions myself.
As part of my internship I had a 2 day course at Grant Thornton's training centre Bradenham which increased my confidence in presenting which is an invaluable skill for my course and life in general. There was also a lot of on the job technical training which will be very useful when I continue my degree this year.
The Company
The atmosphere was serious when it needed to be but overall, the open plan atmosphere in the office meant that everyone would talk to each other and it did not feel like a segregated office.
From day one we were given our timetabled plan for the 6 weeks which meant that we had training events but also a lot of social events planned from day one which was really useful when moving to a new City for the summer.
The course at Bradenham hugely improved my personal development and graduates with Grant Thornton are able to go on many personal and technical training courses once they accept their job. Personal development is an aspect that Grant Thornton shine on.

I am starting my job within the firm next August when I graduate.
The Culture
The social scene was exceptional with socials at least 2, often 3 nights a week which was a great way to meet all members of my team and others on the internship.
As it is in London it is reasonably expensive- however, I found Euston more affordable than more central London.
There were many bars nearby but you need to travel further (i.e. moorage) for a better nightlife but the tube makes this very easy!
While working at Grant Thornton I was often out of the office for other activities. I had an away day with my team, a corporate responsibility day with other graduates and also my days at Bradenham. There were opportunities to get involved with other activities such as sport events.
