The Role
The work was varied and mostly enjoyable.
I was able to build relationships with those on my team but felt unknown by the rest of the office.
Sometimes support was promised but not given.
Workload was unpredictable as it often relied on the public.
I was able to work on some projects by myself but all work needed to be given the go ahead by my line manager.
I definitely improved my communication skills.
The Company
Tension over redundancies.
My line manager had to ask to see a copy of my CV as my application was not sent over from the head office.
Aside from e-learning there was no other structured personal development.
Respected career choice.
The Culture
I was the only intern in my office and by far the youngest person working there. Most people were parents and spent evening with family rather than planning social activities with work colleagues. I was able to meet up with iterns from other offices occasionally but this involved travel costs.
London is an expensive place to socialise!
Lots of nightlife variety in London.
Visits to other government departments were offered.
