The Role
Great internship. Very well organised, with a variety of tasks to get involved in. The learning curve is quite steep to begin with, but then as you learn more it becomes more interesting.
People really appreciated your input and help. Likewise, it feels really great to be able to help out someone when they are having a very pressurised time. Hence you start to also appreciate colleagues taking out time to help you a lot.
In terms of guidance, it was more of a case of how much guidance you asked for. If you seemed like you understood everything perfectly then little guidance will be given. But always good idea to ask a lot of questions to get more support and guidance to begin with to ensure you were on the right track.
Some days it was very busy- the whole day I would have continuous deadlines to meet. Other days were quite quiet. Really need to appreciate the quiet days when they come around!
For an intern, there was a reasonable level of responsibility given. Again, it depends on how willing you are to take on more responsibility. The more responsibility you ask for, they will adjust the work accordingly.
The modelling skills learnt are quite useful. Big take-aways in terms of skills that you could apply are the time management skills. Organisation skills and interpersonal skills have also been developed here.
The Company
Depends on the team you are assigned to- hence this would be team specific. But I think overall people are very friendly. You can always chat to anyone if they have a spare minute.
Organisation was great. HR made sure everything ran smoothly. Staffers try to ensure that work schedule is quite smooth.
In the beginning we had a week of training. These were concerning general overview of bank and some finance related seminars. Then throughout the whole internship seminars on various modelling skills were taught.
Subsidised Canteen
Very friendly culture. People are really approachable. They definitely invest a lot in the interns.
The Culture
London is expensive in general. This area isn't too bad in terms of accommodation. Cost of socialising is medium-high depending on where you go .
Most of the time you are in the office. However, the area does have a great nightlife. Great restaurants nearby and it is close by Shoreditch area.
Difficult to know. Most of the time you were in the office. I think there are quite a few opportunities for activities though.
