The Role
It was very enjoyable in general, although some aspects of the work were more interesting than others.
I felt very involved within all the teams I worked with and I felt like the work I did was valued by my colleagues and that I was contributing a lot to the team.
There's a lot of help available when you ask for it, but also there is a need for you to use your own initiative and common sense sometimes.
Some days were extremely busy and others the work load was a lot lighter, overall I think there was the right amount of work to do, but it wasn't evenly spread over the duration of the placement.
I was given a lot of responsibility, running my own project by the end of the internship- this was one of the highlights of my placement!
A lot of skills were developed during my placement which would be very useful in the workplace. Most of the skills were more applicable to the workplace than to further education.
The Company
The atmosphere was professional yet friendly, with colleagues bringing in sweets/cakes on special occasions and everyone always willing to ask how you're doing with your work.
Overall the internship ran very smoothly!
Emphasis was placed on learning through the tasks I was given- an onsite training course was organised but unfortunately this was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Subsidised Canteen
There is a possibility of being offered an 18 month placement with Rolls-Royce after I graduate.
The Culture
The social scene was okay, the location of the placement in Derby was a bit limiting.
The area was fairly inexpensive.
The nightlife was not fantastic- you would have to travel a bit further afield for a good night out.
I was not aware of any opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work.
