About You
Mayer Brown is such a welcoming firm and kept us busy with real work on cases and group sessions with partners in the firm. We also were invited to a trainee training session which was a real benefit. Social nights out with the other vac schemers, a trip to Paris for the day and the firm's summer drinks party were incredibly enjoyable too.
Very much so, the vast majority of time was spent doing work for real cases which was very rewarding.
My supervisors were always on hand to answer any questions that I had.
The experience will definitely be valuable for when I start my training contract with the firm, but things like the trainee training session we were invited to on contract law is a great refresher for final year. I also learnt a great deal on public companies before I study company law in final year.
The Company
The three weeks were split evenly between the two seats and it was really good to spend more than a week in both seats. It definitely helped me to settle in properly, rather than just a week had the scheme been two weeks.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Every member of the firm had time for a question and we were invited to lunch with members from the department etc. It was a really comfortable atmosphere.
We had some sessions with partners and trainees where we discussed the firm and training with the firm in more detail. However, I have been on other schemes where they ran 'an introduction to company law' type sessions which proved very useful during the scheme. That would have been a great thing to include in the scheme.
It was a really great experience, we were able to see the firm on a daily basis and really appreciate what is will be like to work there.
Doors are genuinely always open and the culture is nothing but friendly and helpful.
The scheme definitely confirmed to me that Mayer Brown is a firm with a great environment and culture that I absolutely want to be a part of.
Everything Else
The pay was great and travel to Paris was paid for. Travel expenses for interviews were reimbursed too.
Partners' lunches, drinks parties, social events with trainees - many opportunities for networking, as well as inside the office as everyone is so friendly. On the first day there was an informal drinks to get to know the other schemers and meet trainees in the firm.
Brilliant. A trip to the Paris office was fantastic and the social events were great to meet trainees in the firm and get to know HR better.
There is opportunity for pro bono and whilst I was in the firm there was even a charity row/swimathon in the canteen.
Absolutely.
