The Role
Got to see and work with lots of cool stuff, colleagues were friendly and helpful, was given responsibility and lots of challenges to work on.
I was given lots or responsibility and freedom to complete my tasks, received regular feedback from team members and was well supported throughout my placement.
Managers were very approachable and my goals and objectives were really well laid out. I had regular opportunities for both formal and informal feedback from management.
As I was only there for the summer and due to changes going on with Rolls-Royce I had sections of downtime where things were needing approval but I couldn't be included on other projects due to time constraints.
Was given the responsibilities at the same level as the other design engineers.
Skills and experience gained this summer will benefit me greatly in finding a place in my field. It also allowed me to focus on what areas and roles within engineering I'd like to explore.
The Company
Staff were trusted to complete work at their own pace as such the office was very relaxed and laid back, there were even frequent nerf gun battles!
Some issues with IT access but it was very well organised overall, I had tasks set out for me when I arrived and was also allowed to pick up tasks as my placement progressed
Was given opportunities for personal development but due to limited time I didn't get to anticipate in any training courses.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Due to rating achieved in my final development review I will be asked back for further placements
The Culture
There were self organised events among the interns and a society based in Rolls-Royce
Derby is a very reasonably priced place to live.
Derby had a selection of bars and nightlife venues
Various sports teams and societies were advertised through the company and revolved around the subsidised gym/social club
